The Reaper Challenge: Will You Slay the Reaper or be a Weeper?
We’re working on our most ambitious idea to-date: The Reaper Challenge. I mentioned this competitive eating event for chile heads a few weeks ago and promised to share more details as they become available.
If you don’t recognize the Reaper reference, it’s to the Carolina Reaper. Chile pepper breeder Ed Currie spent more than 10 years developing the Carolina Reaper as a cross between the Saint Vincent Habanero pepper from the Caribbean and the Naga pepper from Pakistan. It was the hottest pepper on record from 2013 to 2023, when Currie released the even hotter Pepper X.
Are You a Reaper or a Weeper?
The Reaper Challenge will involve several contestants competing to see who can eat an ounce of Reaper and Weep pecans (about 15 halves) in a minute. Sure, there’ll be prizes, an emcee, free beer, and I Slayed the Reaper t-shirts for all contestants. Most importantly, there’ll be fundraising for a charitable cause.
Our first series of eating contests will be here in Charlotte. But by no means do we need to limit ourselves to the Queen City.
If you have a charity you want to raise funds for, or think that The Reaper Challenge sounds like a lot of fun, send us a message through the Contact Us form on the website. We’ll be in touch about hosting an event.
If you want to see the initial Reaper Challenge tasting event, you can watch the video here. If you do have a charity in mind, be sure to tell us a little bit about the charity you want to support, and most importantly, the city where you’re located.
By the way, you don’t have to be a hardcore chile head to enjoy this new flavor. We made it hot enough for those who like a good sweat, and flavorful enough that you can taste the pecans and the other seasonings we blended with the pepper.
We’re Celebrating Our Anniversary
We’re always moving forward with new flavors such as our recently introduced Reaper and Weep, and wild events like The Reaper Challenge. However, sometimes we also take a few minutes to look back. With August, our anniversary month, just around the corner, this is one of those times.
Every year for the entire month of August we hold our anniversary sale. All you need to take advantage of it is the coupon code. To get the code, just sign up for In a Nutshell, our occasional newsletter. The cut-off for the next issue is this Friday.
Since it’s our anniversary, allow me a moment to say thanks to you our customers and our community. I could not have imagined all the fantastic business people I’ve met, the friendships I’ve made, or the support we’ve received along the way.
We’re still in our infancy, of course, with the vision for our savory roasted pecan snacks to conquer the snack world still firmly in front of us.
I know I’ve grown through the experiences and challenges we’ve faced. I’ve certainly learned a lot. Perhaps the most important thing I’ve learned is that you can make your own road to success one step at a time. So, we’ll keep making our own road to success, one step at a time, for as long as we have your support.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading today’s edition of The Scoop. When you take just a few minutes more to sign up for our newsletter, In a Nutshell, below this post, you’ll get coupons, company news, and catch up on Aunt Patricia’s latest adventures. You can also follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
