Competitive Eating Contest to Raise Funds for Char-Meck Firefighters’ Burned Children Fund
Wutta Nut! Pecans, in partnership with other community sponsors, is raising funds for a Charlotte charity through a series of competitive eating contests. Participants compete in a one-minute timed eating contest Featuring Wutta Nut! Pecans fiery Reaper and Weep roasted pecans. Successful challengers will be named Reapers, while those to fail will be named Weepers.
Hosts for The Reaper Challenge for charity are Charlotte craft breweries, including Resident Culture-Southend, Triple C Brewing, and The Wooden Robot, with more craft breweries to follow. The first event is Saturday, September 21 at Resident Culture-Southend, followed the Saturday, September 28, at Triple C Brewing, with a third event on Saturday, November 9, at The Wooden Robot.
It’s all for the benefit of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg chapter of the North Carolina Firefighters’ Burned Children Fund (FFBCF). Each year they raise more than $30,000 for burn survivors. The money assists families with ancillary costs they incur when a member suffers severe burns and is hospitalized. In addition, students who are burn survivors and those going into burn care training receive college scholarships.
Reaper and Weep pecans are seasoned with Carolina Reaper chili pepper, the world’s hottest pepper for 10 years until 2023, and other flavors, including lime and brown sugar. It is the hottest in the Wutta Nut! Pecans line of heat flavors that begins with slightly sweet Memphis BBQ, and the spicier We’re Kickin’ It barbecue flavor.
How to Register
All are welcome to take part in these events where heat meets heart, as contestants or as donors for designated challengers. Donations go directly to the Firefighters’ Burned Children Fund.
Contestants must register for The Reaper Challenge for charity and can do so from the home page at wuttanutpecans.com. All challengers will receive a free t-shirt and the events will be video recorded.
