At 1.64 million Scoville Heat Units, the Carolina Reaper chili pepper is the second hottest pepper, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. South Carolinian breeder Ed Currie developed the Carolina Reaper by crossing the Saint Vincent Habanero pepper from the Caribbean with the Naga pepper from Pakistan.
A fruity taste lurks beneath the heat of this audacious pepper, giving the snack an initial sweet bite. To bring out the fruitiness and tame the capsaicin, Reaper and Weep includes a blend of vinegar, lime, and brown sugar.
When eaten alone, the Carolina Reaper chili pepper then makes a vicious turn to what many call “molten lava.” Others liken it to “licking the sun.” Like all Wutta Nut! Pecans, the Reaper and Weep flavor is free from preservatives and artificial flavors or colors. About Carolina Reaper
A Capsicum cultivar, the Carolina Reaper chili pepper was developed by South Carolinian breeder Ed Currie. It is a cross between the Saint Vincent Habanero pepper from the Caribbean and the Naga pepper from Pakistan. It is recognized by its gnarled and bright red appearance, with a bumpy texture and small pointed tail. The Guinness World Records called it the hottest chili pepper in the world for ten years. In 2023, it was surpassed by Pepper X, which was also developed by Currie.
